any records yet -- coming up. >>> welcome back. 7:15. new this morning, president obama is on his way to south africa right now to attend the memorial service for nelson mandela. now, you watched it here live on the morning news about two hours ago. president obama and first lady michelle obama boarding air force one. now, also on air force one for the trip to south africa former president george w. bush, his wife, laura, and former secretary of state hillary clinton. former presidents jimmy carter and bill clinton will also be attending the memorial but they are traveling separately. the only living president not going to the mandela funeral is george h.w. bush. he's 89 and is no longer able to travel long distances. >>> in south africa people are still gathering outside of nelson mandela's house in johannesburg. this is video shot earlier this morning. tomorrow, a public memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium that seats 95,000 people. then nelson mandela's body will lie in state in a government building in pretoria from wednesday through friday and then on sunday, nelson

as president obama begins a three-week public relations campaign for the new healthcare law, another lawsuit was filed against the affordable care act. the university of notre dame filed a religious challenge to the healthcare overhall, saying the -- overhaul, saying the requirement that the health plans cover birth control violates roman teachings. this is one of more than 80 lawsuits attacking the law on religious grounds. it will be the supreme court who decides if employers can refuse to offer benefits under the law. but that ruling is not expected into well next year. >>> some legal experts say people hear in california should pay close attention to the provisions of the bankruptcy protection just granted for the city of detroit. the judge in that case ruled that detroit can impose cuts to the pension plans of employees. that ruling comes as a bankrupt california city, san bernardino, is considering a legal showdown with cal piers -- calpirs. the ooles ruling does --. >>> they are not giving hope. why there's new hope for a san jose pilot and his family missing since sunday in idaho. >>

this mcdonald's. this is new york this morning. fast-food companies say increasing wages as much as $15 an hour would lead to increased customer costs and fewer jobs. last month, president obama said he would back a senate measure to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. we're also expected to get some video later this morning, hopefully any time soon. mcdonald's workers protesting outside the smithsonian's national air and space museum. they work there under a federal contract. they are calling on the president to issue an executive order that companies doing bis with the federal government -- business with the federal government pay that wage. the workers say it's difficult to live on 7.25 an hour which is only about $15,000 a year. now, again, protests at 100 cities across the country here in the bay area, workers are striking. planning to strike outside of fast-food restaurants in oakland, in san jose. in our next hour of "mornings on 2," we'll have more details on where and when those walkouts will take place a little later on today. >>> reporting live in the newsroom,

department is warning a gallon of milk could cost as much as $7 if the congress does not pass a new farm bill. democrats and republicans remain at odds especially cuts to the food stamp program. president obama is optimistic a deal can be reached. >> an opportunity for bipartisan cooperation on a comprehensive farm bill. he hopes and expects that that can be approved before the end of the year. >> now, milk would not be the evenly item affected -- only item affected. butter, cheese, ice cream would soar along with prices of other commodities such as corn, wheat and soy beans. points of contention to get this new farm bill passed, the effects it will have on families with food stamps and paying farmers not to farm. more on that coming up in our next hour of "mornings on 2." pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >>> there are no reports of any injuries or damage from an earthquake last night in napa county. a quake measuring 3.7 shook the community of angin at 10:22 last night. about 24 miles northeast of santa rosa. some people say they felt desks and chairs move but no major jolts. >>>
